Perhaps you’ve heard of adobe. No, not the photo production company. Adobe is a way to build structures out of mud. While usually this results in one story houses in most contexts, Yemen has taken it a step further. Many of their mud huts are more like mud skyscrapers. While they aren’t usually bigger than ten stories, that’s still a crazy impressive feat for mud. What’s more interesting is how the buildings are styled. Look familiar?
The village of Shibam!
The buildings look quite western, don’t they?

These buildings do require constant upkeep due to rain, however.
Must be an interesting place to live.
