So you’re looking for some direction as to how to invigorate that business of yours, huh? Well, if you heed the words of the guys who have been there and done that, you might just resemble them in the future. Who are these guys you ask? Millionaires, big spenders and people who invested their time, energy and lives into something and came out on top of the world, counting money like a gangster rapper.
If you are in fact one of the “before success” business men who have not yet earned enough money to have a mansion built in Beverly Hills, then you may want to consider some advice from the “after success” folks who have explored the diverse methods of operating a successful business. As much pride as you may have running your corporation your own way, it couldn’t hurt to keep your lid open for suggestions. So push that arrogance aside and listen up!
#1) “Do What You Love & the Rest Will Come”
This particular quote might come off as a bit cliche’ in its message: “follow your heart, your dreams and do what you love!” Cliche’ indeed, but there is a reason every adult you’re related to has instilled this into your brain ever since you were a kid–it’s because its simple, yet effective.
And Dennis Crowley will be able to tell you first hand how beneficial it is. Over the past five years, his companies Dodge ball and Foursquare has raised more than $140 million dollars, making him one of the most influential c-suite executives, under 40 years of age. Quite an achievement, huh? And it’s all thanks to his mother, who drilled this quote in his head long before he was driving luxury cars.
#2) “Stop Being Scared, & Jump”
Sacrifices will always have to be made when considering taking the leap and starting your own business. It took Rehan Choudhry years to muster up the courage to ditch his food service job to start his Las Vegas based festival called “Life is Beautiful.” After quitting his job, jumping toward his dreams and flourishing with success, he’d said, “What makes an entrepreneur is not knowing everything about business, but rather being passionate and fearless. There’s no ‘right time’ to take the leap; you can take it at any point in your life, and you should.”
So it seems he’s pretty enthusiastic about taking risks, huh… Well that is certainly a good thing, as most successful business men and women are in fact successful because they were willing to do things others wouldn’t even consider.
“What makes an entrepreneur is not knowing everything about business, but rather being passionate and fearless,” Choudhry said. “There’s no ‘right time’ to take the leap; you can take it at any point in your life, and should.” He claimed this perspective has prevented him from over analyzing every decision or opportunity that comes his way, leaving him more focused and limber.
#3) “Spend Most of Your Time Looking Forward”
You may here a lot of people going on about living in the moment and taking advantage of the present day to better your future, but Jim Murren, MGM Resorts International CEO believes otherwise. His goal is to mold the employees of his company to envision the long term. “Creating teams that have an understanding of not only what they are doing but, most important, why they are doing it, is critical,” he said.
#4) “Surround Yourself with a Great Team, & Build that Team Slowly”
Sheila Johnson, the owner and operator of BET entertainment stated: “Your team is one of your most important investments, and if you are careful about hiring only the best people, it will pay dividends.” Strong words coming from the founder of the popular television network. Although she claimed that she is “disappointed with how women are being portrayed” on the network, she apparently has no problem reaping the benefits. I suppose her ideal image of a woman lies in the business field rather than the “twerking” field.
And speaking of “Surrounding yourself with a great team” she is also the owner and partner of three Washington, D.C. sports franchises: The Capitals, Wizards and Mystics. Not only that, she is also a manager of luxury resorts, built from the ground up by her direct commands. If you want to talk credentials, then this woman can certainly hold up the discussion. So before you just go ahead and hire the average Joe off the streets wielding a pretty resume, picture Sheila’s face giving you a stern look.
Although there are many middle-class citizens like ourselves, there are also many millionaires sprinkled across the U.S. And guess what…every one of them has got something to say. If you’ve came across any powerful quotes you’d like to share, feel free to spread the knowledge!
