One of the keys to success is not to forget where you came from. Understanding the importance of your past, including all your triumphs and failures, gives you the ability to move forward and face the future with freedom, confidence and dignity. American professional basketball player LeBron Raymone James shares deep ties with his hometown Akron, Ohio.
On August 13, 2015, King James shared news on Twitter announcing that he will give full scholarship to 1,100 students from his “I Promise” program, who meet the attendance and grade requirements. Moreover, the NBA star is expected to shell out $42 million to cover all the tuition fees.
In an interview with ESPN, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ star said:
“I think it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of, this is very special to me.” He also added, “As a kid growing up in the inner city and as an African-American kid, you don’t really think past high school because it’s not possible or your family can’t support you. For us to be able to do something like this, it means so much.”
To show gratitude and honor their hometown hero, the University of Akron renamed its education school the “LeBron James Family Foundation College of Education.” Learn more about the details of his scholarship program by watching the video.
