A New Challenger Arrives

I only recently learned about the world of esports, or electronic sports where hundreds of gamers gather to compete on stage in various games. It sounded pretty awesome and so when I came across the article, Esports market to grow 43% to $463M in 2016 and reach $1.1B by 2019, I knew it was worth a read. Author Dean Takahashi relays what esports analyst Pieter van den Heuvel said in a statement,

“In 2016, North America will strengthen its lead in terms of revenues with an anticipated $175 million generated through merchandise, event tickets, sponsorships, online advertising, and media rights…A significant part of these revenues flows back to the game publisher, but across all publishers, more money is invested into the esports economy than is directly recouped by their esports activities.”

You might want to check this article out if you want you piece of the esports “pie.”

Also worth reading is another one of Takahashi’s pieces, Game-software revenues to grow from $90B in 2016 to $115B by 2020. We all know that gaming is a humongous beast, but did you know that,

“Mobile will be the biggest part of the business, as the sector will grow from $35 billion in 2016 to $48 billion by 2020.”

You might want to get a move on designing that next big mobile app or game and then have this happen.

But before that, check out the article, The Way You Buy and Use Apps Is About to Change Big Time to see what you might be able to expect when getting into the game.

And if you need some help getting the word out, everyone’s favorite nostalgic internet provider has just rolled out their most innovative idea yet.

In Ken Yeung’s article AOL expands its ‘One’ platform to include tools that help publishers sell to advertisers, he discusses the new service,

“AOL has developed an offering that gives publishers a way to monetize their work without having to use tools from multiple companies. Called One by AOL: Publishers, it consolidates the company’s portfolio of services into a single package that provides audience engagement, analytics, content distribution, and revenue management all in one place.”

Yeung goes on to list the crazy new changes worth over $1 Billion the company has recently implemented in order to create, “technology aimed at establishing AOL as a major player for publisher needs.”

Just don’t call it a comeback.

Turning Lemons Into…Something Delicious

In the article, How A Software Entrepreneur Turned An Attack By A Fraudster Into The Business Of His Dreams, you will learn an incredibly valuable lesson in picking yourself back up when life knocks you down. Way down.

And in case you feel the same way author Liz Ryan feels about job listings these days in that,

“employers have become very unrealistic in listing the qualifications they want in their new hires…Job ads are delusional. They want the sun, the moon and the stars,”

…then you should read her article, How To Get A Job You’re Not Qualified For. She will give you some great insight into writing something called a Pain Letter, which is different than a cover letter. You can read about them here.
