His Love For Life & Commitment to Excellence Made Him “The Man” At the First Ever ESPY’s

This video features American college basketball player, coach and broadcaster James Thomas Anthony “Jim” Valvano, also known as Jimmy V, as he delivers a remarkable speech at the first ESPY awards in 1993 that inspired generations.

In 1992, Jimmy was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Without much time to live, he found an extraordinary way to make a difference, help others, and give hope to life.  With the support of ESPN, Jimmy created The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

In this speech that he delivered just 8 weeks before he died of metastatic cancer, Jimmy talked about his commitment to excellence and enthusiasm for life.
