About two months ago, at a post-shift drinking session, my colleagues and I had an interesting discussion about dating culture.
Art, a bachelor with a reputation for dating multiple women at once, said that he didn’t want to be tied down to one woman for the rest of his life. He also added that good women are hard to find nowadays.
Of course, the girls in our group got slightly offended, particularly Jean. So she jokingly said, “Don’t get me wrong, Art, but you can’t be living like a hoe and expect a top-caliber woman to fall in love with you.”
Jean’s punchline made everyone laugh, including Art. Two weeks later, we heard that the two started dating each other. We noticed surprising changes with Art’s lifestyle. He began spending his weekends hanging out with Jean instead of getting drunk and picking up girls at the club.
While my friend Art is on the process of revolutionizing his life, I’ve decided to share with you some interesting and famous quotes that can help to guide you in turning your life around.
“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody expects of you. Never excuse yourself.”
The first thing you do when you want to upgrade the quality of your life and make a difference is to create positive change and raise your personal standards. You do this by setting higher expectations for yourself, treating yourself better, and expecting others to put you in high regard.
Every goal that you want to achieve requires something from you and in this case, it’s self-discipline or willpower to put enough work, energy and time in, in order to get what you want.
In the piece “3 Small Words That Will Revolutionize Your Dating Life,” James Michael Sama explains that the reason why many of us cannot build genuine, real relationships with people that last for a long time anymore is because of low standards.
The choices and decisions you make in life are reflections of your self-worth. If you know what you truly deserve and you’re only going to accept the very best, then you should be comfortable letting go of the people who don’t meet your standards.
“Don’t let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big.”
One of the best strategies in life is to always know when and how to expand your horizons to create more opportunities.
For example, to become a successful entrepreneur, it is important to open yourself up for big changes and break through the limitations you’ve set for yourself.
According to Bob O’Donnell of Fast Company, big names in the tech market like Apple should THINK BIG as we now enter the post-device era.
And thinking big doesn’t necessarily mean creating new devices, but creating a new set of platforms and device-independent services.
The takeaway for small and starting entrepreneurs is that when challenges intensify, you need to evolve the way you think for long-term survival and success in the business world. You have to learn to break your self-imposed limits and outgrow yourself.
“Improvement begins with I.”
Lasting change starts within yourself. Instead of wasting your energy complaining about your life and criticizing other people’s mistakes and shortcomings, focus on fueling your passion, making things better and dedicating yourself to doing things that will make your life fuller.

• Learning to direct and control your desires rather than letting them direct you
