We’ve all heard the saying, the early bird gets the worm. However, actually following that advice is … Harder than one expects. If you’re like me, you might be the kind of guy who sleeps till noon because waking up earlier than that is like fighting a losing battle. Luckily, there might be a way for you to change up how you wake up. It sounds crazy, but it can work!
There’s just a few tips you need to follow in order to make this transition easier, and it only takes a little bit of struggle. So, if you’re ready to change to lifestyle for the better, read on! It’s time to learn how to be more productive in life, agreed?
#1) Ease Yourself Into It
While you may think that getting up early starts tomorrow, you don’t want to rush yourself into something you can’t commit to. First, you want to make sure your schedule is accepting of your new transition. If you’re job requires late nights until one AM, it might be harder for you to get up as early as you want. The best thing to remember is to always give yourself room for six to eight hours of sleep.
This is the appropriate amount of hours to sleep, and if you aren’t getting enough, you’ll never be as productive as you want to be. So, the most important thing is sleep right! Another thing you want to do is if you’re used to sleeping in until twelve, try to start waking up around ten. Don’t go right off the bat trying to get up at six or something, as you’ll be in for a world of disappointment with how obstinate your morning self can be. In a way, you want to wean yourself into waking up earlier.
#2) Create a Routine
The best way to get used to waking up early and being productive is to give yourself something to do. Now, you don’t have to do anything crazy, but something like just taking a walk around the block will help you tenfold, as opposed to just sitting in your bed thinking about how much better the dream world is. In time, you may move to something like going to the gym or maybe a new hobby.
If you work at home, this is often the best time to maximize your workload and get things done. Remember to eat a small breakfast at some point and time, and you’ll notice a weird feeling; You’ll feel accomplished even before it’s noon! Now, this is the feeling you want to chase if your trying to get yourself into a more productive lifestyle. It all starts with just a little bit of movement.
#3) Stick to it!
Now, this is the hard part. Actually doing what you say. Once you set out some goals and your alarm, the only one who can keep you awake is you. Unfortunately, you’ll have no one but yourself to blame if you keep sleeping in till noon, wasting the day away instead of exploring frontiers that could change your life. On the bright side, once you start doing this, you’ll have no one but yourself to thank. Isn’t that nice?
The only way to do this is to force yourself to sit up and move. Avoid hitting that ‘Snooze’ button! It will only make matters worse. Set your alarm for the time you want to get up and stick to it! It’ll be hard at first, but so is everything in life that’s worth it. Think of it as getting a head start on your day.
Of course, if you don’t want to be a morning person, you can still be productive. Being a night owl doesn’t mean your lazy, it probably just means that you don’t like people around while you do things. If that’s the case, consider trying out this lifestyle for a few weeks and seeing if you adjust better. If not, Hey, it’s your life. And as Bon Jovi said, you ain’t gonna live forever. Who am I to tell you when to wake up?
Gotta say though, seeing a sunrise is a really nice way to wake up.
